Tin Nicho Iglesia

Mexico
$49.95

Nichos have been used for centuries in Europe and Latin American countries as places to put religious statues and images. Tin nichos came into being in Mexico in the 18th century, when tin mining became a main industry. Originally the tin used was from recycled cans, then as the processing methods became more modern, and the general population had a little more money they were able to purchase sheets of tin for this purpose. Today, all the tin nichos are made from tin sheeting. The stamping process is much like leather stamping, and each of the nichos is hand cut, soldered, stamped, then washed in a bath that changes the color to an antique finish, then rubbed down to make a simple shine. The glass door opens to accept your favorite photo or religious talisman. This charming nicho is completely hand made in Mexico and is meant to hold an image, photo, and/or to be painted and decorated. You can use acrylic paints, oils/lacquer on these. Many use milagros, dry flowers, images of saints, muertos, angels or your own images or paintings to decorate.
