ARTIST PROFILE

Cajun Winston

from Haiti

I am CAJUSTE JN WINSTON; I was born on March 27, 1967 from Croix des bouquets.
Beginning;
Two friends they give me a job to flatten 5 drums, as it was my first experiment I practiced it with the naked hands. That tore my hands. They gave me money and that put much joy in my heart. In following day they gave me 10 drums to flatten, quickly I completed them and they gave me much more money, it was one of my more beautiful memories owing to the fact that I had my own moneys.
I cut out my first drums with a man called Méda. I benefited from his moments to create my own works (samples), my first sample was a musician on a basis and I created many others different models.
Now;
I am married, I have 6 children including 3 girls and 3 boys, I am not traveled yet abroad but I would like to make it to be able to take part in exposures to see works of the other artists and that will help me to work much more.

I can say at the time of the earthquake, I was spirited conversation with a friend and it is then I feel a little weird because I feel as if the earth is spirited riding with me and I cannot get stand, and I knew none of what it really is. Frankly throughout my life I never saw such a thing and neither did my grandparents.
I go home to see many bodies throughout Street, people seriously wounded, houses completely destroyed and those that are cracked, half way, I watched half of my home on the ground and this time there was electric. As usual when there was electricity children tend to be watching that is what worries me most is that I had one of my sisters and my six children were in the house. I thought that they were all dead and luckily for me and for them, God was there to help them.
After this tragedy there are cries throughout the area, or parents who tears the death of their child or children crying the death of their parents, it was really sad, all things have blocks at this time because that there was no communication, no house, no water, nor the bank and even food available. Finally there is nothing like it. During the night I forced to sleep in the street with my family we have even a piece of cloth to cover us. We spend two weeks sleeping in the street with nothing, and it made us all sick this move was very hard for us the Haitians.
And that is when the first person who think of us was you. We did not even think a very nice gesture like that.

GOD BLESS YOU MORE AND MORE
