The short sleeves and bodice are fitted and the blouse then falls loosely over the rest of the body. Smocking gathers in the folds of the fabric with decorative figures of children or flowers. The quality of the smocking is a key to the skill of the embroiderer; it is called "hazme si puedes" ("stitch me if you can"). This blouse is embroidered in silk. The front and back seams and the edges of the neck line and the sleeves are created of elaborate crochet work. All this work, done by hand, takes months and months to accomplish.
