Product Description
Vintage metal file storage box manufactured by Deyca in Mexico, hand painted with a charming traditional village scene. These sturdy metal boxes were produced as functional office or filing containers and later individually hand painted, transforming a utilitarian object into a piece of Mexican folk art.
The hand-painted scenes depict everyday rural life, including figures in traditional dress, animals, cactus plants, trees, and adobe-style homes. The artwork is painted directly onto the metal surface, giving each side of the box its own vignette and character. Because each box was hand painted, no two are exactly alike.
This box was purchased in the late 1990s and reflects the popular folk-art revival of that era, when industrial objects were repurposed and decorated by artisans. It works beautifully as decorative storage, a file or document box, or as a standalone folk art accent.
The box measures approximately 12.5 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 7.75 inches high. It features integrated metal handles and retains its original industrial construction beneath the painted finish.
The condition is vintage, with surface wear, scuffs, and paint variation consistent with age, use, and hand-painted folk art. These signs of wear add to the authenticity and character of the piece. Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description. Colors may vary slightly due to lighting and screen differences.
A unique combination of Mexican folk art, functional storage, and late 20th-century design, ideal for collectors of vintage Mexican decor, hand-painted metal objects, or rustic interiors.
