Large Voodoo Sculpture with Veves & Haitian Gods by Charles EneldSize: 34" x 26"
This extraordinary handcrafted metal sculpture by Haitian artist Charles Eneld represents a powerful Metamorphosis— a symbolic transformation where human, animal, and spiritual forms merge into a single flowing design. Eneld describes this piece as a spiritual evolution, in which the central figure transforms into three heads representing benevolent spirits, believed in Haitian tradition to bring protection, guidance, and good luck.
Created from recycled steel oil drums, the artwork showcases Eneld’s masterful use of traditional Haitian metalworking techniques: hand-cutting, repoussé embossing, and detailed hammer texturing. The resulting sculpture is alive with movement — wings, fish, flowing limbs, and layered patterns radiate energy and transformation.
At the base, a human form begins the metamorphosis, rising through a tree-like trunk that symbolizes growth and connection. The figure transitions into a mythical creature with fish and animal elements, before emerging as three radiant spirit heads. Each head expresses a different aspect of positive spiritual force, reflecting Eneld’s belief in harmony between the physical world and the invisible realm of guiding spirits.
This piece is a striking example of Haiti’s rich artistic and cultural heritage — blending folklore, spirituality, nature, and imagination into a sculpture that is both visually stunning and deeply meaningful.
