Product Description
Authentic hand-woven traditional Nahualá Guatemalan huipil, featuring a black base with rich purple accents and a symbolic bird motif. This striking textile was created using ancestral techniques passed down through generations of Maya weavers in the Nahualá region of Guatemala.
Each huipil is woven on a traditional backstrap loom, a process that can take months to complete, especially when complex patterns and symbolic imagery are involved. Through color, design, and weaving style, huipiles communicate information about the weaver’s community, identity, beliefs, skill level, and personal expression—a visual language easily read by indigenous women.
This huipil is open on the sides, a traditional construction method, and is in excellent condition. It may be worn as a blouse, preserved as a collectible textile, or displayed as wall or table art.
