Description:
A large, exceptional ceremonial huipil from Sololá, Guatemala, woven in three panels on a traditional backstrap loom. The base cloth features the highly prized natural brown cotton (ixcaco), admired for its rare, soft hue and fine texture. The textile is richly accented with deep blue motifs created using traditional indigo dye, providing a striking contrast against the warm natural cotton ground.
The three panels are skillfully joined with an elaborate randa—a decorative embroidered seam—adding both structural and artistic refinement. This huipil exemplifies the technical mastery and cultural symbolism of Sololá’s ceremonial textiles.
An outstanding example for collectors of fine Guatemalan weavings
