Product Description
1990s Vintage Oaxacan Alebrije Cow – Signed by Angel Cruz Solis
This authentic hand-carved alebrije dates to the 1990s and comes from La Unión Tejalapam, Oaxaca, a village known for its early and traditional wood carving workshops.
The piece is signed on the underside, with the inscription referencing Sr. Ángel Cruz Solís. While the signature has naturally softened with age, it remains visible and legible, consistent with genuine vintage examples.
Carved from copal wood and painted in a restrained, rustic palette, this figure reflects an earlier style—prior to the highly detailed and brightly patterned forms widely produced today. Its minimalist decoration, expressive red eyes, and sculptural form give it a strong folk art character.
