Rooster on a Cow Piggy Bank, One of a Kind, Handmade in Mexico, Ortega Family, 9" x 8.5" x 3" (Ortega 87)

The Ortega family has been working in Barro Betus for four generations. This is also called "Fantastic Ceramics" because of the bright colors used, barro betus gets its name from the oil bath it receives in aceite de betus (oil of betus - a resin extracted from the pine tree) before it is fired.

This ceramic candle holder is signed by Ortega (Gerardo Ortega) - Made in Mexico. It's not every day that you see a cow drinking a beer, with its clunky hooves. This colorful cow looks to be enjoying herself as she sits and drinks with a smile on her face. The turquoise base is emblematic of the vibrancy you see Mexican pieces and the personification of the animal makes the piece relatable. Even though this is your classic black and white cow, the artist has put some colorful flair and accent to make it quite the eye-catcher. Once you get it, you can decide the perfect color candle to suit your setting.Sometimes it is the little accent pieces that bring a room theme together. This pretty piece can be added pretty much anywhere, but would be a unique addition to your collection of cows or any Mexican themed location.
