Product Description
This authentic Tabla de Sarhua is a traditional narrative folk painting from the Andean village of Sarhua in Peru's Ayacucho region. Measuring 21.5" x 3.25", this hand-painted wooden panel was created as a ceremonial gift to commemorate the completion of a family's home.
Sarhua boards are traditionally read from bottom to top and tell the story of a family's life, occupations, community, and spiritual beliefs. This example features scenes of weaving, farming, livestock, village life, family members, and a sacred religious figure, all rendered in the distinctive style that has made Sarhua art internationally recognized.
The inscription records a personal dedication:
"With all my love, I dedicate this to my dear friend, Don David Ramos, on the occasion of the construction of his house, September 12, 1996."
Created by Artes de Sarhua, Peru, this piece serves as both a beautiful work of folk art and a historical record of Andean cultural traditions.
