This extraordinary one-of-a-kind Haitian metal wall sculpture was created by the late master artist Claudy Prophete. Measuring an impressive 33.5" x 33.5", it was cut from the side of a repurposed 55-gallon steel oil barrel. The detailed underwater scene features a magnificent octopus surrounded by tropical fish, sea turtles, a seahorse, starfish, coral and swirling ocean life.
Materials can be extremely difficult to obtain in Haiti, so artists ingeniously work with what is available. Only two sculptures of this scale can be made from the side of one barrel. Claudy cut, hammered and chiseled every detail entirely by hand, transforming discarded steel into an intricate and highly collectible work of Haitian art.
