A slender female figure rises through an elaborate composition of spirals, curls and flowing lines reminiscent of wind, waves and water. Her unusual face is formed by a radiating metal sunburst, surrounded by curling elements that create an almost crown-like halo.
The lower half of the sculpture becomes increasingly abstract, with a large central spiral opening into long sweeping curves. The design gives the metal an unexpected sense of movement—as though the entire figure is being carried by wind or water.
Look closely and you'll see another level of artistry. Nearly every edge has been painstakingly textured and patterned by hand.
The sculpture was handmade in Haiti from recycled steel oil drums, using traditional techniques to cut, hammer, chisel, emboss and shape the metal.
At 34 inches tall and only 10 inches wide, this one-of-a-kind piece is especially beautiful in a narrow wall space where its dramatic vertical form can stand on its own.
