About Painting: Virgen del Carmen, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, is the patron saint of sailors, fishermen, and other seafarers. She is believed to protect them from thedangers of the sea. In honor of Virgen del Carmen, followers celebrate on July 16th in coastal towns. Many boats are decorated and carry the image of Virgen del Carmen. In Peru, the Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen combines religion, art, dance. There is a procession where the statue of Virgen del Carmen is carried thorugh the streets to bless those attending.
This painting was purchased in Peru in the mid 1990's and has been carefully stored in our warehouse.
