Veve Erzulie Danton Skull Metal Wall Hanging Sculpture, Sugar Skull Skeleton Artwork, Handmade in Haiti, Recycled Metal 11.25" x 9.5"
Who Erzulie Freda Is Erzulie Freda Dahomey - Ezili Freda - is the lwa of love, beauty, luxury and femininity. Her full name carries her origin in the old kingdom of Dahomey, in what is now Benin. She is served in the Rada rite, and she is the spirit of refinement, flirtation, jewelry, perfume, flowers and dancing: the dream of a sweeter life than the one at hand. She wears three wedding rings, one for each of her husbands - Damballa, Agwe and Ogou. Her colors are pink, blue, white and gold. She is offered jewelry, perfume, sweet cakes and liqueurs, and she is syncretized with Mater Dolorosa, Our Lady of Sorrows. Do not confuse her with Erzulie Dantor, the fierce Petro lwa who protects women and children. They are often described as sisters, and they could not be less alike. Reading the Veve The heart is Erzulie Freda's emblem. In her veve it is whole and unbroken - which is exactly what distinguishes it from the pierced heart of Erzulie Dantor, whose heart is run through with a blade. If you are trying to tell two Erzulie pieces apart, look at the heart first. About This Piece Hand-cut from a recycled steel oil drum by an artist in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti, using only hammer and chisel. No two are exactly alike. Fair trade. The artist is paid directly.
