Product Description
This powerful one-of-a-kind Haitian metal sculpture by Jn (Jean Robert) Jacques reflects the deeply rooted spiritual and artistic traditions of Haiti.
Measuring approximately 17.5 inches wide by 42.25 inches tall, this striking piece is handcrafted from recycled steel drums in the renowned metalworking tradition of Croix-des-Bouquets. The sculpture features layered forms and mask-like imagery, evoking themes often associated with Haitian Vodou culture, symbolism, and ritual expression.
There is no need to ask Jean Robert Jacques where his artistic inspiration comes from—the answer is found in a single word: Vodou.
Brother of artist Jean Garnier and father of Roodlet, Jean Robert has played an important role in shaping the technical skills of other artists, while maintaining a style that is distinctly his own. His work is known for its raw, expressive, and primitive aesthetic, often incorporating elements inspired by ritual objects and spiritual iconography.
His workshop is filled with what he calls “vodou sticks”—assemblages of wood, found objects, kitchen utensils, and metal forms. While this piece is more refined in construction, it retains the mystery, intensity, and authenticity that define his work.
Each sculpture is entirely handmade—cut, hammered, and shaped from recycled steel—making every piece unique. No two are ever alike.
